Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul，

And sings the tune without the words，

And never stops at all.

And sweetest in the gale is heard;

And sore must be the storm

That could abash the little bird

That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land，

Yet， never， in extremity，

It asked a crumb of me.

艾米莉·狄金森（1830—1886）是美国文学史上最伟大的诗人之一。她的诗感情真挚、立意新颖、想象奇特，对现代派诗歌影响甚大。诗人在这首诗中讴歌了“希望”。“希望”是中外诗歌出现次数仅次于“爱情”的主题。
