Winter Is Coming冬天要来啦
Most birds, such as swallows and swans, can’t stand cold weather. When winter comes, they fly to warmer places. This is called migration. It’s a long way to go. And the trip can be dangerous. So many of them travel in large groups together. Insects, like butterflies and moths, also travel long distances in winter.
Animals like bears, snakes
and hedgehogs don’t like cold weather, either. But they don’t migrate. They hibernate. They eat a lot in autumn. Then, they find a den for their winter sleep. After they find a good place, they sleep in it for months! They don’t eat or drink at all in their sleep. It’s hard to wake them up until next spring.

Some animals stay active in winter, for example, weasels,
rabbits, sparrows and deer. They can adapt to the changing weather. To keep warm, they grow new, thicker fur or feathers in autumn. And they know food is hard to find in the winter, so they gather food in autumn to eat later.
Plants like sunflowers live for only one year and die. Each flower leaves behind many seeds. These seeds can grow into new plants when spring comes.
Plants like the cacti stop growing in winter. They go to sleep like some animals.
Pines and cypress trees are not afraid of winter. They can stand both the cold and the wind.
