M: Could you give me a ride to the airport this afternoon?

W: I’d like to, Jason, but I’m meeting Jean at the library, which is in the opposite direction.

Text 2

M: I’d like to see a skin specialist.

W: Right now, we only have a general doctor on call. Please sit down, and a nurse will bring you in shortly.

M: OK, thanks.

Text 3

W: What do you think of the new restaurant, Henry? I have heard different opinions.

M: I think the food and the environment were not good, but the service was absolutely satisfying.

Text 4

M: Nice weather we’re having! Don’t you think?

W: No, it is too cold.

M: I think it is just right.

W: I’d prefer a few degrees warmer.

Text 5

M: Could you tell me the timetable of the school bus?

W: Well, the bus leaves here for the campus every two hours from 6:30 am. But on weekends it starts half an hour later.

W: Are there any flights to San Francisco on Sunday?

M: Yes. But I’m afraid there are no direct flights available.

W: What about Saturday then?

M: Yes, there is one on Saturday evening. Would you like a seat in the economy class or first class?

W: Economy class. What’s the price?

M: It is 260 dollars.

W: What time does the flight land in San Francisco?

M: Six o’clock on Sunday morning.

W: OK, I’ll take two tickets. What’s the flight number?

M: Good evening, Mrs Wang. Welcome to the program.

W: Good evening. It’s a great honor for me to be invited here.

M: Well. You have a special preference for hanfu. Could you talk about your understanding of it?

W: Yes. For me, the piece of historical clothing has untold stories and philosophical ideas in its every detail. Instead of imitating people as I used to do, I have jumped out of my comfort zone and found the style that suits me best. Through hanfu, I have found myself and so many unexplored things in my life.

M: You have such a deep understanding of hanfu. Will you be engaged in designing hanfu in the future?

W: It’s highly unlikely. Although I have no talent in designing clothes, that doesn’t stop me from liking them.

M: Excuse me, could you tell me how to get downtown? I just moved here.

W: Sure. You need to stay on the blue line for two stops, and then change to the red line.

M: Thank you. My name is Franco. It’s nice to meet you.

W: Nice to meet you, too, Franco. My name is Emily. Are you from Spain?

M: Actually, I am from Italy. I just moved to America last week.

W: What are you going downtown for? Do you have family here?

M: I don’t know anyone. I just want to see the city and learn how to take public transportation here.

W: Oh. Well, the bus system isn’t great. There are long lines, and the traffic is bad. It’s a good thing you take the subway.

M: Good to know. Well, thank you for your help, Emily.

W: Not at all. I’ll have to get a taxi to the sports center. There is a basketball game tonight.

M: Have a good night.

W: Thank you. Bye.

W: Boy, can I help you?

M: Yes. I’m new here. Where should I go?

W: Well, this is a program for this morning which starts at 9:30. All the new students will first gather in the meeting room where you’ll be introduced to the staff.

M: Where is that?

W: I’ll tell you in a moment. But just let me tell you the details of this morning’s activities.

M: OK, then.

W: Firstly, at a quarter to ten, in the hall, which is next to the meeting room, the Director of the Studies will talk to you about the different courses and their requirements. This should last about 45 minutes. Then at about half past ten, the Student Union will talk about some social activities that we offer. That’s in the same place. He will finish at about 11:00. Then there will be a short break, after which you’ll be taken to Classroom 3 at about 11:15 for a test.

M: Oh, I can’t believe I’ll have to take a test.

W: Take it easy. It’s not like an exam. It just helps us find your level of English and put you in the suitable class.

M: OK, I see.

Hello! Welcome to our online parent-teacher meeting. We are so excited to share information about our next field trip for first and second grade class. We will be going to the Hands On Children’s Museum in Olympia where the kids will be able to see exhibits on art and science. The date for the field trip is Tuesday, 28th February. So we will leave the school at 10 am and arrive at the museum around 10:30, and head back to the school around 12:30 pm. We will get a free bus ride, which is awesome because it will save us a lot of money. The cost per child is still not confirmed because we are waiting for the museum to apply a reduction, but it should not be more than 8 dollars. The museum requires one volunteer parent for every 5 children, so we will need at least ten of them. Also as a reminder that children need to pack their own lunch. If you wish to attend the field trip and volunteer, please let us know via email, by adding your name to the list linked below as soon as possible.
