Notice

Dear students,

In order to improve our awareness of environmental protection and social service, we are going to organize an activity in the forest park of our city.

We plan to build a team of student volunteers to help clean the park from 8:00 to 11:00 next Saturday morning. We will gather at the school gate at 7:30 am and go to the park together by school bus. All students are welcome to take part in this activity.

Come on! Join us to do something meaningful for the environment and society!

During our first group meeting, I was extremely surprised. I discovered that Mike, Julie, and Cathy were actually really kind and funny. They had unique ideas on the book we were reading, and I found myself enjoying our discussions. Slowly, I began to see them in a new light. We worked hard on our project, each bringing our own strengths to the table.

Finally, we delivered an impressive presentation. We ended up receiving an A, just as Mrs Smith had promised. Through this experience, I learned a valuable lesson. Mrs Smith was right— giving ourselves a chance to see others in a new light can lead to unexpected friendship and success.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I’m writing to apply to be a volunteer for the Chinese painting exhibition which will be held in your art gallery. I think I am qualified for this job for the following reasons.

First, I’m good at English, and I can communicate with native speakers well. Besides, being an outgoing girl, I get along well with all my classmates and always get ready to help others. What’s more, being a student majoring in art, I’m confident that I can give the visitors a brief introduction to Chinese paintings without any difficulty.

I’d be grateful if you could offer me the opportunity. Looking forward to your early reply.

Yours,

Li Hua

“Whoa! Wait! What?” I ran to rescue my birthday book drawings. But it was too late. As I picked up my once-perfect pictures, they were totally wet and became useless paper. I cried in despair, “My drawings are gone forever!” It was just like a thunder from the clear sky. “How did they get out here in the rain?” I shouted. “I saw the cats knock some paper off the table,” said Ben hesitantly. “What did you do then?” “I just tried to recycle the paper on the floor,” Ben answered, embarrassed and nervous.

At that time, Mary came up to me and gave me a comforting pat on the shoulder. I cried, “I have no birthday gift for Dad now.” Looking at the pictures about the grocery store carefully, Mary said, “Why not turn them into something new?” Hearing her words, an idea came to my mind. I rushed home with the pictures, took out some air-filled balloons and covered them with the wet pictures. To my surprise, the balloons were the perfect shape for big fruits. Soon, there was a big basket of “fruits”. And Dad loved this creative gift!
