I’m now living in southern France with my husband and three kids. I feel like afish out of water everywhere but one place—the Saturday street 11 .
It’s been in our small town of Sommieres since the 13th century, but we’ve onlylived here for three months. On weekdays, life is all about the 12 . I’m busyhelping them deal with life in a French school. It’s not easy, and their pressure isthe whole family’s 13 , as Keith and I try to pay enough attention to both thedaily school runs and much homework in French.
But on Saturday, the market is for me. I feel so 14 as I walk along the quietstreet toward the busy town square. A shop keeper is there, running an old machine. There are street musicians with guitars, and the sound of beautiful songs 15 theair. And the food, of course, is delicious. The cheese man doesn’t speak—he justpoints and cuts, offering a piece from his knife. 16 come out of the door for freshbread at the (面包店). Vegetables and fruits of different colors are a (盛宴) for the eyes, before being put into the bag to be enjoyed later for lunch. Thenoises and smells of the market are new and exciting, but the way of shoppingare 17 to me.
This is part of why I love the place so much: Unlike during the week, when I’mfaced with my own 18 , I know how this place works. My terrible French isn’t the(障碍) to communication as it is in other situations. At school and in the village, I can’t joke on or 19 a conversation. Although the other parents at theschool are kind, I’m an outsider. However, I feel like a local in the crowd, greetingpeople I know.
My Saturday experiences 20 me to hope that in the near future, I’ll also feelconfident in my everyday life. Until then, Saturdays prepare me for the coming weekof school runs.

A report from UN showed the global problem of food waste. It turns out that byfar, about 61% of food waste happens at home. The total weight of food thrown out athome is about 74 kilograms for each person every year. Restaurants were responsiblefor about 26% of the food waste. The remaining 13% was thrown away by stores,Global Times first reported.
It was surprising that food was wasted at about the same (比率) in all exceptthe poorest countries. (The UN had difficulty studying food waste in the poorestcountries.) Many people thought rich countries were more likely to waste food than countries that were less rich. That turned out not to be true. In fact, some richercountries wasted far less food than (平均).
In some cases, (标签) might be causing food waste, the report said. Peoplemight be throwing away food even though it’s still good to eat, simply because the“Best By”or “Sell By”date has passed. In poorer countries, food may be wastedbecause not all homes have a fridge.
( )21. In the material, the reasons of food waste were not mentioned at all.
( )22. A family of three may waste about 222 kilograms food in a year.
( )23. The rate of food waste was the lowest in the poorest countries.
( )24. Some food can still be eaten when the“Best By”date has passed.
( )25. Some people’s opinions about food waste turned out to be wrong.
