All life is dependent on rain, and rain is what keeps our world green, freshand beautiful. You don’t have to be a farmer to be concerned1 with rain. If you’relucky enough to be somewhere where it rains, you can head outside to dance, sing,or just walk in the rain. If it doesn’t happen to be raining, you can enjoy adelicious meal of fresh greens and other things that depend on the rain to grow.

Depending on where in the world you live, rain may be something that you arevery much used to. For some people, they see more rain than sun, and this cancause them to become a bit frustrated2 by it. After all, no one likes being caughtin the middle of a downpour, do they? However, there are a lot of reasons why weshould love rain.

Yes, rain is important for certain industries. Rain can be soothing3. Have youever laid in bed and listened to the raindrops hitting your window? It is so soothingand relaxing.

In fact, a lot of people play audio4 of raindrops to try and help them get tosleep at night. If you are someone who has trouble sleeping, give it a try!

From a more technical5 and scientific point of view, rain is a vital6 part of thewater cycle7. Rain is vital to all life on Earth. Rainfall is the main way in whichwater in the skies comes down to earth, providing drinks for animals and plants,and filling our rivers and lakes.

When you think about these, you see why rain is so important, and why it issomething that should be celebrated.

People and cultures all over the world have days to celebrate rain and it’slife-giving power.

Because of this, hedecided that he would keep a yearly record of the rainfall on this date. In the1930’s, John O’Hara decided that he would send stories about Rain Day to othernewspapers. Because of this, Rain Day ended up spreading to all corners.
