The Man Who Saved the Moon
Cyrus TahbazA kind-hearted man, looking down intoa well, saw the reflection1 of the moon inthe water.
“Oh! My God! The moon has falleninto the well,” he muttered2 sadly andhurried to fetch3 a hook4 tied to the end of along rope.
Quickly, he let the hook fall deep intothe well, holding fast to the rope.
The hook hit the water and, reachingthe bottom of the well, caught fast to a stone.
Thinking that he had got the moon, theman pulled up the rope with such force thatit broke and he fell down flat on his back.
The first thing he saw when he stood upagain was the moon, which now shonequietly high up in the sky.
The man groaned5 in pain but saidhappily, “I broke my back, but, thank God,the moon is saved.”
