A Baby Lion Learns to Roar小狮子学吼叫

Once upon a time， there lived a PapaLion with his son in a jungle2. Papa Lionloved him very much. But he was also veryworried. The Baby Lion had still not learnedto roar.

One day， Papa Lion decided to appoint3a teacher to teach his son how to roar. Heasked Jack， the Jackal4， to be his son’stutor. The next morning Jack came over tothe lion’s cave5. The Baby Lion had neverseen such an interesting teacher.

Jack started the lesson. “This is how todo it，”he said. “Watch me.”He turnedtowards the sky and shouted. Then the BabyLion shouted. That was simple.

They both went proudly6 over to PapaLion. Papa Lion askedhis son， “What haveyou learned？” TheBaby Lion turned to thesky and shouted，“Ooo-wooo. Ooo-wooo.”“You call that a roar？”Papa Lion asked and roared angrily7. Jackwas frightened8 and ran away.

Next day， Papa Lion hired9 a newtutor—the Elephant， Mr. Hophop. He was astrict teacher. He said， “You must payattention10 to your studies. We shall nowbegin our lesson. Now watch me carefullyand repeat after me.”

Mr Hophop lifted his trunk11 andshouted. The Baby Lion lifted his paw12 andshouted.“Very good，” said Mr. Hophop.“You have now learned how to roar.”

But when in front of Papa Lion， thebaby Lion lifted his paw and roared， PapaLion became very angry.“This is anelephant’s roar！”he shouted.“Lions do notroar like elephants！ ”Then he chased13 Mr.Hophop away.

Next day， Papa Lion hired Mr. Cool theCat as the new teacher. Mr. Cool first dranka glass of milk， cleaned his paws carefullysaid，“Meow. Meow.”

“This is very interesting，” the BabyLion said to himself， quite happy. “Fun tolearn.” Later， Papa Lion asked his son，“Let’s see what have you learned.”

The Baby Lion drank a glass of milk，cleaned his paws proudly.“Well？”said Papa Lion impatiently14.“Meow， meow，” said the Baby Lion withgreat pride.

Papa Lion was angry and said， “If thatis a roar， then what is this？”He started toroar. By the time he stopped roaring， Mr.Cool had disappeared15.

“Maybe I’d better teach you myself，”he said. Papa Lion roared again and said，“Try to repeat.”The Baby Lion tried but hejust could not do it.

“All right，”said Papa Lion. “We willdo it step by step.”But the Baby Lion justcould not do it.

Papa Lion was disappointed16 andangry， then walked away. The Baby Lionbecame very sad. He tried many times butwas not able to roar. “I will never do it，”hethought and began tocry. His friends gatheredaround him.“Do notworry，”they said.“Youwill learn at last.”

小狮子喝了一杯牛奶，骄傲地清洗了它的爪子。

Many days passed. One day theBaby Lion was playing with his friends.Suddenly， they heard some noises likebang17 bang. All his friends ran away.

“Run. Run，”they cried to the BabyLion. “There are some hunters18 in theforest. They are here to kill animals. Run.”

The Baby Lion began to run. Ahunter saw him and began to run afterhim. The Baby Lion was scared and raneven faster. The hunter fired19. The BabyLion’s was so frightened that he suddenlylet out a roar！

The roar scared the hunter away.The Baby Lion was very surprised. Hehad learned to roar.

许多天过去了。一天，小狮子正在和它的朋友们一起玩。突然，它们听到砰砰的声音，所有的朋友都跑了。

“跑，快跑。”它们对小狮子喊道，“森林里有几个猎人。他们是来杀动物的，快跑。”
