My Red Crayon
While drinking my milk at the diningroomtable, I saw a red crayon on the floornear the table. My younger brother musthave left it there when he went to playoutside. I was not sure he had finished hisdrawing. But the red crayon brought backsome memories2.
I remember hating3 the way my redcrayon would never really finish coloringFlash’s superhero4 outfit. Every time Ididn’t color it right, I would rip out5the page from my coloring book, crumple6it.
My parents were always busy outside. They had a lot things to do. I liked readingpicture books. Drawing and coloring differentbooks were a big part of my early childhoodlife, as I was always being told to just stay athome. So, I made it a point7 to always sit onthe top step of our house whenever I’d drawand color.
My dad’s study room was where mycrayons and pencils were kept, the thirddrawer in his desk. The room was full ofshelves8 of his books. At four years old, ittook me a while to work out how to get tothem. Waiting for someone to help me tooktoo long, as jumping up to get my crayonsdid not work. After a few days, help camefrom my uncle Joe.
My uncle was my mom’s older brother. He lived two hours away and had a habit ofbeing late. The first time I saw him I asked my mom if he could eat at our house. UncleJoe would visit my mom from time to timeand bring me his old comic9 books. Luckily,he brought me a Spider-man picture book.
“I can climb up the shelves of my dad’sbooks just like Spider-man! Why did not Ithink of it before?”I thought.
The day came when I decided to putthis idea to the test. I had just woken up andran downstairs to my dad’s study. There itwas: my first mountain to climb up. I took afew deep breaths10 then pulled myself up.As I was trying to lift my feet to get to thefirst shelf, I slipped11 and heard a loudsound! A few seconds later I was on myback with a cut on my head and it wasbleeding12 into my left eye.
My parents ran downstairs in a panic13.They carried me to the car and drove me tothe hospital. It was annoying14 even morebecause all I knew was that my pencils andcrayons were still in the third drawer of thedesk. So I would not be able to draw or colorfor a few days. I cried and thought that tears15were sweet and red. Again I remembered myannoying red crayon.
