How the Police Station Stands out

作者: Zhang Jianlin Zang Xinmao

A private message popped up on "Lao lv Chat," the Weibo account of Lv Jianjiang Police Station, at 7 a.m. on April 4, 2022. "Could you release a notice for a missing person? My grandpa went missing yesterday." At this, Wang Yonghui, Head of the Lv Jianjiang Police Station of the Qiaoxi Sub-bureau of the Shijiazhuang Public Security Bureau, contacted the requester immediately. He wrote a notice and posted it on a host of social media platforms. 30 minutes later, Wang received a report that the lost senior was found and his family was on the way to pick him up.

The station was known as the Anjian Qiao Police Station until 2017 when Lv Jianjiang, its former chief, passed away from overwork on December 1. Lv was posthumously awarded "Role Model of the Times" by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, awarded "Most Beautiful Striver" jointly by the Publicity Department and the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, "Second-Class Hero Model" by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), as well as "Outstanding CPC Member of Hebei Province" by the Organization Department of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee. The Station was given the current name five days after his death, becoming the first police station in the province named after a person.

This police force is to carry out field operations and patrolling; handle inquiries on household registration, immigration, motor vehicles and motor vehicle drivers; deal with traffic offenses; and recover lost properties and missing persons. The station has become a symbol of safety for the public, as the policemen have settled over 8,200 cases, resolved 2,000 conflicts and disputes, assisted and rescued 1,500 individuals, and apprehended 200 criminals since it took on its new name. In recognition of its accomplishments, the team was awarded "First-Class Collective Merit" by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) in August 2021.

Serving People Wholeheartedly

Wang said, "I have been encouraging all team members, since the first day I took office, to take Lv Jianjiang as an example when we serve the people and fulfill our duties."He added that Lv's name on the front gate of the station that greets him every morning will always remind him of his predecessor's smiling face.

On August 21, 2018, a newly-arrived migrant worker came to the station for help, saying that he lost the way back to his workplace after a stroll. Wang drove him in the streets until midnight, trying in vain to find the location. With no other choice, Wang sent reports to all police stations across the city, released a notice on Weibo, and took the man to a social assistance center for the night. Luckily, the next day they located his place on Huaibei Road, two kilometers away from the Station.

On March 7, 2019, Hou Long, Deputy Head of the station, and Zhang Weidong, a police officer, received a call from a citizen saying that her husband was bleeding because he accidentally cut off the top of his left middle finger when he was chopping a chicken. But on their way to hospital, they got trapped in a traffic jam close to the station. They rose to the emergency. Immediately Hou told Zhang to start a police car to give them a ride. Nine minutes later, they got to the hospital. The policeman rushed around with registration and payment and didn't leave until the surgery began.

The station is in operation around the clock. At noon on July 16, 2021, the police received a call that someone was intending to jump off a six-story building. Wang and his colleague QiaoYuchang rushed to the site at the rooftop, trying to mollify the suicidal man. Gradually the guy stopped waving his arms and swinging his legs in the air, and his hysterical shouting abated. Right at that moment, Qiao lunged and grabbed his arm while Wang took hold of his body tightly, lifting the man to safety.

Wang said that the people will feel secure, satisfied and reassured as long as we serve them with patience, sincerity, and concrete actions, be it a word, a favor, or a hand.

Renewing Laolv Chat

The social media account "Laolv Chat" initiated by Lv fell silent after he passed away. Thanks to Wang, the account has been restarted to provide real-time services online.

"My residence permit has expired, but I need it to apply for a car plate right now. What should I do?" At 5 a.m. on January 3, 2018, Wang was ready to sleep after a tiring night shift when this message popped up on "Laolv Chat". He replied, "You can apply for an endorsement within one year of expiration. You are advised to consult with the police office that issued the permit to you for detailed information." He also provided the addresses and phone numbers of all police offices in Shijiazhuang.

Posting notices and answering questions and requests online have become Wang's daily routine. "I will reply to them no matter how late it gets or how tired I am," the officer said."For years, Lv Jianjiang never stopped helping people solve their problems, big or small, regardless of how urgent or tricky. I will continue with Laolv Chat to keep the online service going."

So far, Laolv Chat has made over 8,500 posts and answered over 2,000 questions on Weibo, its followers growing from 28,000 to 200,000.
