Thai FarmerTurns Rice Fields into CatArtworks泰国农民巧变稻田为猫咪画作

Many farmers have to think hard abouthow to keep animals away from their crops.But a farmer in Thailand has welcomed threevery big cats into his rice fields. However，these aren’t just any cats—they’re artworksmade from the crops2.

A farmer created this art with the help ofmore than 200 volunteers3 on his land in acity in the north of Thailand. The catsappear4 to be sleeping， one of them holding a fish. The farmer said the art is basedon an old Thai proverb5： In the water there are fish; in the fields there is rice.

He began working on the cats in October 2023. The shapes6 are made throughthe careful positioning7 of different rice crops. He used GPS to make sureeverything was in the right place. A drone8 was also used to check that the catslooked just right.

In December， Reuters reported that special towers were being built next to thefields， so people would be able to see the art from above. The farmer was hopingtens of thousands to come and see the art in the rice fields. He also said that peoplecould visit to learn about the way technology9 can be used to create art.

Thailand is the world’s second largest exporter10 of rice， after India. Butmaking rice fields into art is not new： Farmers in other parts of Asia， like China andJapan， have been doing it for years.
