LA Skateboarders:An Interview

Monica and Carl are teenagers from Los Angeles in the United States.They both love skateboarding. Read this interview and find out more abouttheir favourite sport.

Where can you go skateboarding？

Monica： There are skate parks in lots of towns and cities. You canpractise jumps and meet other skateboarders.

When did you start？

Monica： When I was a child， I liked going roller-skating with my friends.When I was 13， a friend got a skateboard and I tried it. I fell several times butI loved it. Two weeks later， I got my first skateboard. But I still do both sports.

Carl： When I was 11， my dad gave me a skateboard for my birthday and Ispent the summer at the local skate park. I love the freedom and speed.

Is skateboarding dangerous？

Carl： All skateboarders fall off their boards but most injuries are minor. It’sa good idea to wear a helmet to protect your head.

Are there skateboarding competitions？

Monica： Yes， they usually take place in skate parks. Skateboarders dojumps or tricks. The skateboarders who do the most difficult ones win.

Carl： There was a campaign to get skateboarding included in the 2016Olympic Games， but unfortunately it wasn’t successful.

Monica： And there’s “Go Skateboarding Day” on 21 June every year. Inthe United States， European countries and Australia， there are competitions，parties and barbecues for skateboarders.
