【教学流程】

一、巧设课堂主线,激发学生兴趣

T:Yesterday we learned something about DIY. Do you remember what “DIY” exactly mean?

S(together):Yes. It means do it yourself.

T:I am really crazy about DIY. Do you know the meaning of “crazy”? These are what I made with my little daughter. They are very interesting right? Do you like DIY?

S(together):Yes.

T:OK. You all like DIY. So why not join my DIY Club and make something by yourselves? If you want to join my club , you need to finish some tasks.

(屏显——Task1:Read a story. Task 2:Appreciate the language. Task 3:Discuss in groups. Task 4:Do DIY.)

二、快速阅读文本,把握文章脉络(略)

三、细致阅读文本,剖析文本内涵

T:How many times did Andrew do DIY?And what happened to his each try? Please read the story again and fill in the blanks.

S:He tried four times. He once tried to put in a brighter light in his bedroom, but he made a mistake. The whole house had a power cut.

T:Well done. Do you know the meaning of “power cut”?

S:Yes. It means there is no electricity. Maybe everything is in dark at night.

T:Wow, you explain the meaning correctly. What about another time?

S:Another time, he wanted to put up a picture on his bedroom wall, but he hit a pipe and filled the room with water.

T:How do you understand“filled the room with water”?

S:It means the room is full of water. The water is everywhere.

T:Yes, you are right. The water is everywhere! What do you think of his DIY job?

S(together):Terrible!

T:Yes, but did he give up?What happened next?

S:He thought the living room was boring, so he painted it blue. His mum said “stop it”, but he kept on painting. Now the living room has not only the blue walls but also a blue ceiling, even his cat is blue.

T:How did his mum feel at that moment? Why?

S:His mum was very angry, because she said“stop it”.

T:Can you read it with your feeling?

S:Stop it!

T:How did Suzy feel at that moment? How do you know?

S:Suzy was very surprised. Because she said“even”his cat is blue! She can’t believe it.

S:I think Suzy was very angry. Because she said“not only” blue walls“but also”a blue ceiling. She also uses the exclamation mark here.

T:Excellent! You pay attention to the conjunctions, the adverbs and the exclamation marks.

T:Who can read this sentence with your strong feelings?

(学生朗读本句。)

T:What about Andrew’s 4th try? What happened?

S:Suzy wanted a shelf above her bed and Andrew put up a shelf on the wall.

T:What’s the result?

S:Books couldn’t stay on the shelf, because one end of the shelf is much higher than the other.

T:Very good. How do you understand“one end of the shelf is much higher than the other”? Look at me!(教师用一本书和一支笔进行演示。)

T:When Suzy needed a shelf, what did Andrew say? How long did he spent on putting up the shelf?

S:He said“No problem!”, and he spent five hours putting up a shelf on the wall.

T:Yes. Five hours is very long, right? What do you think of Andrew?

S:He is patient, helpful and warm-hearted.

S:He is crazy about DIY.

T:Excellent. We can see Andrew is patient, helpful, warm-hearted, persistent and crazy about DIY.

T:Although Andrew is crazy about DIY, he failed all the time. What did Suzy do?

S(together):Suzy asked him to read books about DIY and take a course in DIY.

T:Did Andrew listen to her? What did he do?

S:No. He was very angry. He says he already knows everything about DIY.

T:Why was Andrew angry?

S:Because he is too proud.

T:Yes. He is over-confident and too proud.

T:What did Suzy do at last?

S(together):She is reading all the books and attending lessons herself. Now she knows more about DIY than Andrew.

四、深入解读文本, 赏析文章语言

T:Wow, you have moved onto Task 2. Do you like the story? Do you think it is a good story? Why?

S(together):Yes. Because it is so interesting.

T:What makes the story so interesting? Please discuss in groups.

S:Because the examples in the article are so special and interesting.

S:Because the writer uses the conjunction, adverbs and exclamation marks.

T:Yes. And you know although Andrew is crazy about DIY, but he isn’t good at it. And Suzy now does better than Andrew in DIY right? This is called contrast.

五、探究主题意义, 落实立德树人

T:Now you have a better understanding of Andrew. Here is your third task. What do you think of Andrew? Why?

S:I think he is helpful and warm-hearted, because when Suzy need a shelf, he helped her.

S:I think he is over-confident, because he thinks he knows everything about DIY. But no one can know everything about something.

S:I think he is persistent, because he never gives up.
