小金鹿（下）

晨光中，蝴蝶飞舞，花儿刚刚醒来，张开了惺忪的睡眼。小金鹿回到了家中，兴致勃勃地讲述着昨晚在森林里发生的事：

It was too hot yesterday. 昨天天气太热了。

Sister Basho was very thirsty. 芭蕉姐姐很渴。

She was sad at first. 刚开始她很难过。

I was with her all night. 我整晚和她在一起。

Four animals were there， too. 还有四个小动物也在那儿。

There were a lot of dewdrops last night. 昨晚有很多露珠。

We were all happy at last. 最后我们都很开心。

听着小鹿的讲述，每个人都为他感到骄傲。风婆婆正好经过，她也为小鹿高兴。但她年纪大了，没弄明白小鹿说的was和were该怎样用。

风婆婆：was和were是be动词的过去式吗？

小鹿：是的，was是am和is的过去式，与I/she/he/it连用；were是are的过去式，与we/they/you连用。如：

1. I was a teacher. 我曾经是位老师。

2. She was in Beijing last week. 她上星期在北京。

3. It was Sunday yesterday. 昨天是星期日。

4. We were students two years ago. 两年前，我们是学生。

5. They were all happy last night. 昨晚他们都很开心。

6. You were late yesterday. 昨天你迟到了。

风婆婆：你这么一说我就明白了。那否定形式就是在was和were后面直接加not吗？

小鹿：对！was not的缩略形式是wasn’t; were not的缩略形式是weren’t。以There be结构为例：

1. There wasn’t any juice in the glass.

杯子里没有果汁。

2. There wasn’t a student in the classroom just now.

刚才教室里没有一个学生。

3. There weren’t any black clouds in the sky.

空中没有乌云。

风婆婆：我好像明白了！juice是不可数名词，student是单数名词，它们都用wasn’t；clouds是复数名词，用weren’t。如果变成一般疑问句，只要把was和were移至句首就可以了吧？

1. Was there any bread on the plate？

盘子里有面包吗？

2. Was there a boy under the tree？

树下有一个男孩吗？

3. Were there any apple trees on the farm？

农场里有苹果树吗？

小鹿： 没错！一般过去时中there be的用法和其在一般现在时中的用法是相似的。

风婆婆：那么，改成特殊疑问句应该是“特殊疑问词+一般疑问句”？

How was your holiday？ 你的假期过得怎么样？

Where were you a month ago？ 一个月前你在哪里？

How many birds were there in the tree？ 树上有多少只鸟？

好学的风婆婆开心地飞向树林，绿叶随她起舞，沙沙地吟唱着一首露珠般晶莹的歌；她飞向小溪，溪水随她奔跑嬉戏，永不停息……
