Kevin had not seen his dad for almost one week， because he had been off on abusiness trip across the country. This had been the longest period1 of time he hadgone without seeing his dad， and he missed him.

凯文已经有将近一个星期没有见到他爸爸了，因为他去全国各地出差了。这是他没有见到父亲最长的一段时间，他很想他。

But today was the day his dad was coming home， and Kevin had been in agood mood2 since he woke up this morning. As he went to school， he wasthinking of the questions he would ask his dad and the things they would dotomorrow. His dad usually took him to a basketball game or on a car ride， butmaybe he would be too tired after those.

但今天是他爸爸回家的日子，凯文从早上醒来后心情就一直很好。当他去学校的时候，他在想他要问爸爸的问题和他们明天要做的事情。爸爸通常带他去看篮球比赛或开车兜风，但他在做完这些事之后可能会太累。

During his lunch break， Kevin kept on thinking about how happy he would be when his dad came home. Kevin had been apart3 from him for so long. It had made him understand how much he loved spending time with him.

On the bus ride home， Kevin decided that he wanted to do something special forhis dad to show him how much he had missed him. He knew that his mommy hadmissed his dad just as much as him， so when he got home， he asked her if she had anygood ideas.

When Kevin told his mommy what he was thinking， she smiled with happinessand told him she had a great idea. He asked herwhat it was， and she told him. Then they wentabout setting their plan into action⁴.

When Kevin’s dad came home at around six at night， he came home to a darkhouse. He was surprised， because he had thought that his family would be waitingaround for him. As he walked through the door， he was sad to see that his son and wifeseemed5 to have left him all by himself.

Suddenly6， he heard a noise behind him. As he turned， the light came on， andKevin and his mommy jumped up from behind the chair. “Surprise！ ”they shoutedloudly7. Kevin’s dad was shocked8， but after a moment he laughed. He was very happyto see that the empty house had been a joke all along.“That was very good，”he told hisson and wife.“I thought you guys had left！ ”

突然，他听到身后有声音。当他转过身时灯亮了，凯文和他妈妈从椅子后面跳了出来。“想不到吧！”他们大声喊着。凯文的爸爸十分震惊，但过了一会儿他就笑了。他非常高兴，空无一人的房子一开始就是个玩笑。“太棒了！”他告诉儿子和妻子，“我以为你们出门了！”

Kevin told him that this was not the only surprise of the night. He told him to gointo the kitchen to see if there was anything else there waiting for him.

As Kevin’s dad went into the kitchen， he was surprised to see his favorite mealwaiting for him on the table. There was tomato soup， chicken， chocolate and drinks.The table was full of food， and there was music playing in the background9.

As Kevin and his mommy laughed with happiness， Kevin’s dad smiled andthanked them from the bottom of his heart. Then he pulled surprises of his own out ofhis bags. For his wife， he had bought beautiful flowers that he had picked out for her.For Kevin， he had brought a special present： his very own basketball to practice with.

凯文和妈妈开心地笑着，凯文的爸爸也笑了，并衷心地感谢他们。然后他从包里拿出自己准备的惊喜礼物。他给妻子买了专为她挑选的美丽的鲜花。他给凯文带了一份特别的礼物：供他自己练习的篮球。

Kevin was very happy with his new present， but he was even happier to have hisdad with him at home.
